The rehabilitation and improvement project of the AB-19 Jaffna – Kayts road is currently underway and is expected to be completed by August 2015. The project is funded by the Asian Development Bank and is a part of the Northern Connectivity Project of the Road Development Authority.

This road was obliterated during the height of the civil war and the current rehabilitation will vastly improve the daily transport, business economy and overall well-being of the people of Jaffna and Kayts, a village in the Velanai island near the Jaffna Peninsula.
