Greater Kandy Water Supply Scheme (Phase1 – Stage 2)

The 2nd Stage Greater Kandy Water Supply Project (Phase 1) was one of the largest water supply and drainage project in the country to be carried out in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. It comprised both civil and electrical & mechanical work to construct 08 service reservoirs (including 3 elevated reservoirs/towers), 4 pump stations along with 118Km long transmission & distribution system.

The project comprised three major components:
1)  The construction of civil works of the water supply scheme;
2)  The supply and delivery of major equipment required for its execution; and
3)  The installation, testing and commissioning of Mechanical & Electrical equipment.

The scheme was successfully commissioned and handed over to the National Water Supply & Drainage Board in late 2012. The project has brought benefits to the communities of the aforementioned areas in not only the provision water to over 245,000 residents but through employment generation, improvement of access roads within the communities, engagement of local suppliers and subcontractors and upgrading of few educational infrastructure around the area. The project was completed at a total value of LKR 3.1 billion. In recognition of its success, the project won an ICTAD National Construction Performance Award.
