Point Pedro Water Supply Scheme

The project involved the construction and completion of intake, pump house, reservoirs and raw water and transmission mains and ancillary building of the Point Pedro water supply project, under the Conflict-Affected Region Emergency Project. The project was the one of the first major post-war water supply project to be implemented in the Jaffna Peninsula.

The work comprised the construction and completion of 500m³ ground reservoir, 1,350m³  elevated tower, intake well and infiltration galleries, high lift pump house, chlorination arrangement, stores and workshop, office and caretaker quarters, supply and laying of 1.2km long 150mm in diameter raw water transmission main and 5.3km long 350mm in diameter clear water transmission main. Groundwater was extracted using infiltration gallery pipes or screen pipes.
