Maga crowned with 2015 Engineering Excellence Award

DSC_0949-4x6-webSri Lanka’s largest construction firm Maga Engineering won the 2015 Excellence in Engineering Award presented by the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL), in recognition of achieving engineering excellence in the large-scale construction sector. The award is the country’s highest level of recognition in construction and engineering sector and this was the 4th year Maga Engineering won the award, the highest by any single organization in IESL’s history. Maga was adjudged the winner at the ceremony held at Waters Edge on 26th January with Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) Chief Representative in Sri Lanka Kiyoshi Amada as the Chief Guest.

Maga Engineering, which has been in operation for over three decades, provides employment to a workforce of around 12,000 and boasts a dynamic team that consists of 300 engineers. The company’s engineering expertise has brought to life few of the landmark structures in the country, including the Customs Headquarters, Grand Hyatt Colombo, the Kandy City Center, Mahiyanganaya Sakura Bridge, Matara-Wellawaya Road and Greater Kandy Water Supply Project (Stage 2), to name a few.

During 2015, Maga was involved in several noteworthy projects such as the 100-kilometre Anuradhapura-Trincomalee Road, 47-storey Grand Hyatt Colombo, NSBM Green University Town and 47-storey green building, Clearpoint Residencies. The year also saw the successful completion of a public-private partnership with International Labour Organization and Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational Training to train construction craftsmen. Maga’s environmental initiatives during the year paid dividends with the company winning the National Green Award for the 2nd time.

Maga Engineering is an Organisational Stakeholder of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and holds the distinction of being the only Platinum-rated construction company in the Corporate Accountability Index of Sri Lanka.
