  • 7. ‘CONSTRUCT 2011′ Exhibition

Maga Engineering is the principal sponsor of the ‘Construct 2011′ Exhibition to be held on 19, 20 & 21 of August at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Center (SBMEC) in Colombo Sri Lanka, for the 11th consecutive year. The exhibition is the largest and most influential of its kind in the Sri Lankan construction calendar, and aims to foster links between local contractors, architects, designers, suppliers, government agencies and the public.

This event will offer the opportunity for key stakeholders in the industry to come under one roof for a period of three days. It will create a forum the industry to interact with developers and investors interested in current and future projects, whilst offering opportunities to general contractors, specialized contractors and suppliers to showcase their products and services.

Maga has excelled not only in the timely delivery of large-scale infrastructure projects, but has set industry benchmarks in corporate accountability standards through our sustainability initiatives. In the same vein, we are certain that this exhibition will translate to the public as well as to all stakeholders the growing need for sustainable development in construction, with emphasis given to recent key initiatives such as the forming of Sri Lanka Green Building Council & Green Building Rating, advances in cost-effective construction technology, training and development of craftspersons and implementation of international standards for health, safety and environmental management within the industry.

We believe this exhibition will not only become a showcase for our sector, but act as a catalyst for the construction industry and all other industries, by carrying a message of responsibility and hope for the future development of Sri Lanka.

Environmental Education Programme in Batticaloa & Trincomalee

  • 5. Environmental Education Programme

Maga Engineering joined hands with the Sri Lanka Nature Group (SLNG) and the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) to implement a unique environmental education programme for several environment-focused stakeholders. Identifying the value of biodiversity of the Eastern province, this community project has raised awareness on conservation of protected areas among future generations and public agencies, while making them ambassadors for the protection of ecosystems in the long-term.

Maga Engineering was the principal initiator of the environment project by providing the necessary funding and setting up the programme in collaboration with SLNG, initially in Batticaloa & Trincomalee districts. Workshop materials were developed by SLNG and was reviewed and approved by the CEA. They contained comprehensive booklets on biodiversity and natural resources in the local languages as well as in English. SLNG play a front line role in the entire project by delivering the information to over 400 students, 100 teachers & 100 government officers in both districts.

SLNG is an organization which works with several organizations under a common objective of conservation of nature and its resources. Environmental legal rights and responsibilities and associated consequences, use of the media, awareness raising campaigns, incorporation of environmental issues in mainstream education, increasing awareness and education in target groups and encouragement of public participation in environmental matters are the major considerations of SLNG.
