The Orugodawatta Affordable Housing project is part of a series of affordable housing complexes implemented by the Urban Development Authority (UDA) in response to rapidly growing housing needs of middle-income categories in close proximity to Colombo city. The project is part of the Sri Lanka government’s initiative to improve availability of suitable housing for middle-income groups in the country’s most populous and urbanised Districts of Colombo, Gampaha, and Kandy. The project also involves facilitation to obtain loans on decent terms from local commercial banks.
The Orugodawatta Housing Complex features 440 housing units consisting of 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom variants ranging from 700 to 900 sqft. The complex will also feature a range of amenities including a gymnasium and community centre, facilities for supermarkets, and ample parking for more than 450 vehicles with selected vehicle charging points. In addition, the complex will include a solid-waste management system, and a rainwater harvesting system to reduce maintenance and running costs.
Maga Engineering undertook design, construction, and financing of Phase 01 of the Orugodawatta housing complex in February 2021 and construction is underway.
