The Kandy North-Pathadumbara Integrated Water Supply Project was initiated by the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) and the Ministry of City Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education to provide safe pipe-borne water to the Pathadumbara, Pujapitiya, Akurana, Harispattuwa, Gangawata Korale, and Thumpane DS Divisions in the Kandy District. Toted to be one of the largest water supply schemes in the country, the project will eventually provide pipe-borne drinking water to 500,000 people in areas beyond the Kandy suburbs by 2025.
The project is funded by the EXIM Bank of China and led by Main Contractor Sinohydro Corporation, an expert in the water supply sector and one of the largest construction companies in China.
