The project is a component of the government’s Railway Efficiency Improvement Project (REIP) and Colombo Suburban Railway Project (CSRP) implemented by the Ministry of Transport and funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The project involves construction of a medium-rise 10-storey housing complex at Malapalla with 120 apartments and necessary amenities, covering a total floor area of around 125,000 square feet. The complex will accommodate families living in informal settlements along the railway corridor, who will need to relocate in order to complete expansion and improvement of the Kelani Valley Railway Line, which passes through the Maharagama and Homagama DS Divisions.
As Design and Build Contractor, MAGA’s design focuses on livability and community aspects and features community areas, children’s play areas, and recreational areas. The premises will also include facilities for Grama Niladhari (GN), Development Officer, police post, day-care centre, multi-purpose hall, and post-office; and provisions for adequate parking.
The project is expected to complete by late 2024, in line with expansions and improvements to the railway corridor.
