The project involved the construction and completion of intake, pump house, reservoirs and raw water and transmission mains and ancillary building of the Point Pedro water supply project, under the Conflict-Affected Region Emergency Project. The project was the one of the first major post-war water supply project to be implemented in the Jaffna Peninsula.
The work comprised the construction and completion of 500m³ ground reservoir, 1,350m³ elevated tower, intake well and infiltration galleries, high lift pump house, chlorination arrangement, stores and workshop, office and caretaker quarters, and 6.5Km long raw & clear water transmission system. Groundwater was extracted using infiltration gallery pipes or screen pipes.
