The works consisted of widening existing carriageway, correction of base failures and the construction of a concrete road (designed according to the American Concrete Institute’s Guide for Design of Jointed Concrete), taking into account the wet soil condition and frequent flooding of the area. The project also incorporated the construction of a four-lane asphalt concrete road in the Weeraketiya town.
The road which was completed within a short span of 5 months, won the ICTAD National Construction Performance Award in 2008.
